The 2012 Formula One Season couldn't be any more unpredictable this season with seven different drivers winning in as many Grands Prix.
Sebastian Vettel clinched pole position on Saturday and for a short while, it looked like we are going to see a repeat of the past two seasons with him on pole and taking it all the way to the end without any challenges.
However, that was anything but the case. The start was straightforward enough with the entire grid moving along as if still in formation for the first few corners. Soon enough it was obvious that Sebastian Vettel wasn't going to pull away like he did in recent seasons. The McLaren of Lewis Hamilton and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso were able to keep up with him easily.
When the first pit stops came around, Lewis was able to come out ahead of Vettel while Alonso subsequently was able to leap frog both of them. It was a great move for the Ferrari team. However, it was evident that the Ferrari didn't have the speed to pull away and steer clear of the DRS threat. Soon enough, Hamilton was breathing down Alonso's neck and was able to overtake him easily.
The McLaren team had some minor hitches in both their stops and after the second stop, Hamilton found him behind the other two contenders who seemed to have decided on gambling a one stop strategy.
Hamilton, being on fresh tires, was easily able to catch up on the pair of them and easily overtook Vettel. On the 65th lap, Lewis regained the lead after overtaking an obviously ailing Ferrari. Alonso looked like he was parked on the track as Vettel and subsequently, the Lotus of Romain Grosjean and even Sergio Perez were able to pass him effortlessly.
This season is one of the most closely contended in recent history with the title still up for grabs for so many different drivers after seven races. Hamilton is now on top of the standings with 88 points only two ahead of Alonso at 86 and three ahead of Vettel on 85.
