Spain Prepares to Defend Euro Title

*uefa.com

One of the most successful campaigns in the Spanish National Team's history continues with a title defense of the European Championships this year in Poland and Ukraine.

The current squad still includes members of the team that won the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Unfortunately, in the weeks leading up to the tournament, blow after blow hit the squad as first Carles Puyol announced his inability to play due to injury followed by David Villa. Both players play for FC Barcelona  who lost the Spanish La Liga title to Real Madrid after a three year run at the top.

The entire squad is dominated by players from Barcelona and Real Madrid. With the absence of the two guys from Barcelona, the question is, how deep is the Spanish bench and does this render them disabled or will someone pull a "Jeremy Lin" and become a super substitute?

The team has been busy with pre-tournament preparations and have so far excelled. They were able to stage crushing victories against Kuwait as well as Korea Republic. The team will be playing against China for another friendly match on June 3 before opening their Euro 2012 campaign against Italy. The first match will take place in Gdanks on June 8
